Diane Meredith Belcher: Special Programs

ALL-BACH RECITALS

Johann Sebastian Bach's monumental preludes and fugues, the sparkling trio sonatas,
the superbly crafted chorale arrangements, and other works (including transcriptions)
are featured in these full length programs, which can be individually tailored,
and include specific works upon request.

CESAR FRANCK AND HIS CIRCLE (full recital, or lecture/recital)

These programs feature the works of the legendary Franck, who pioneered the "symphonic"
style of organ composition in the middle of the 19th century for the new instruments built
by Aristide Cavaillé-Coll, and was greatly admired by such luminaries as Franz Liszt.
These melodious and stirring works influenced an entire new school of
organ composition, and are just as compelling today.

SCHUMANN 200th ANNIVERSARY CONCERTS: January - December 2010

On June 8, 1810 Robert Schumann was born in Zwickau, Germany. Although primarily a pianist, he studied and practiced the organ upon the encouragement of his wife, Clara Wieck Schumann. His output of work for the pedal-piano and organ include the Four Sketches, the Six Canonic Etudes, and the Six Fugues on B-A-C-H, the latter being the compositions by which Schumann thought he would be most admired and remembered.

Diane Meredith Belcher was born on June 8, 1960, the sesquicentennial of
Schumann's birthday, and has always been drawn to his exquisite and powerful
works. In the year 2010, she will be presenting concerts, lectures, and
workshops featuring the works of Robert Schumann: either entire programs
dedicated to his music, or recitals featuring excerpts from his organ works.
