Diane Meredith Belcher:
Special Programs and Concerts

SCHUMANN 200th ANNIVERSARY CONCERT: June 4, 2010

On June 8, 1810 Robert Schumann was born in Zwickau, Germany. Although primarily a pianist, he studied and practiced the organ upon the encouragement of his wife, Clara Wieck Schumann. His output of work for the pedal-piano and organ include the Four Sketches, the Six Canonic Etudes, and the Six Fugues on B-A-C-H, the latter being the compositions by which Schumann thought he would be most admired and remembered.

Ms. Belcher was also born on June 8, on the sesquicentennial of his
natal day, and has always been drawn to these exquisite and powerful works.

On June 4, 2010 at 7:30pm, in celebration of both their birthdays,
she will be presenting the complete organ works of Robert Schumann on
the new Dobson organ at St. David's Church, 763 South Valley Forge Rd,
Wayne, Pennsylvania, in suburban Philadelphia.
